Natalie’s Story

ITP warrior natalie

I was a very athletic kid like most 6 year olds are. So bruising was considered normal but when I started excessively bruising we all took a trip to the doctor and I was diagnosed with chronic idiopathic thrombocytopenia purpura.

I was immediately forced to quit gymnastics and school sports and was no longer allowed to jump on my trampoline and play in gym class. It was always so hard to explain to the other kids why I never participated because I knew they wouldn’t understand. I missed a lot of school because of doctor’s appointments every couple of days.

My platelet count was at an all-time low and I was afraid that this would be my life forever. Closed in a bubble. But my body kept fighting even though I wasn't mentally.... Then in 2010 my levels were getting better and better and I started to attend a camp called victory junction where I could connect to others like me, and I didn't feel so alone anymore. I met people with all kinds of conditions and we all became so close. I knew that I wasn't alone anymore and I could do this.

On October 11, 2011 I got my blood checked and they told me I was in remission! I was so happy! Now I am 14 and living my best life!

ITP is a very unpredictable disorder and while I may feel great one day then next I can be severely ill but I always make sure to stay positive. Even though it is incurable as of now, I pray for all suffering from ITP and I hope to raise more awareness of this disorder.
