If you have ITP you know that fatigue is often probably the biggest obstacle when living with this condition. It’s a constant battle and sometimes it really does take its toll. Basically the reason for the fatigue is because our immune system is destroying our platelets therefor our bodies are trying to compensate and is working overtime to create more platelets which in turn causes the fatigue.
So today I am going to discuss some ways to try and help combat fatigue;
Hydrate – dehydration can sometimes cause one to feel sleepy so it’s always important to stay hydrated.
Stress Less – this step is easier said than done however stress can cause many issues amongst your body therefor it’s better to try and learn how to relax. Take deep breaths, focus on what you are grateful for rather than the negative and take time out for you, like a small walk or cup of tea.
Snack – your blood sugar level can play around with your energy levels hence why it’s good to snack throughout the day to keep that blood sugar level stable. Obviously I am discussing healthy snacks here although a chocolate here and there doesn’t hurt.
Be submissive – sometimes it’s better to just give in and give your body what it is asking for. SLEEP! You should always try and get at least 7-8 hours’ sleep a night and if your body says it wants more – give it more.
Take time for you – sometimes life can get busy and that build-up of constantly being “busy” can lead to fatigue and you could even burn out. This is why time out for you is an important factor when it comes to your health.
Don’t Overeat – Overeating can cause havoc on your blood sugar levels what it will do is give you a massive high then come crashing down, leaving you exhausted. So although binge eating might be tempting it’s best to avoid it.
Take a Snooze – Studies show that a good old power nap can do wonders for one’s body.
Learn to do nothing – for those whom like to be on the move this can often be a difficult task however sometimes it’s best to just leave the housework and just sit around and binge watch Netflix.
Take your B-Vitamins – B-Vitamins play a very important role in your overall well-being. If you are low in this vitamin it can cause fatigue hence why it’s vital to have good B-Vitamin intake.
