If you have not read my previous post in relation to periods and ITP here is the link.
Ok now let us get started as to why a period tracker is ever so important for a woman suffering from ITP (Immune Thrombocytopenia).
As you are aware, ITP is a condition where ones platelets are below average. The average person has a platelet count of 150,000-400,000 and anyone below the 150,000 count is considered as having low platelets. For me in particular my levels generally sit around 25,000-30,000 so I am considered a high-risk case of low platelets.
What are platelets you may ask? Well platelets are the substance in your blood that has the ability to clot your blood when at risk of bleeding. I am sure it comes at no shock to know that when ones platelets are low their risk increases of bleeding out.
Hence why low platelets and that time of the month do not usually go hand in hand. Now I am not stating that every time I have my periods I bleed out but I am stating from time to time that time of the month can be like a crime scene.
It actually can be a very dangerous time and does require some extra attention. This is why I feel a period tracker is such a handy little tool for any woman suffering from ITP.
For me I started using a period/ovulation tracker to help with baby making however although my experience with trying to have another baby is desperately failing I still found this tracker ever so useful.
This tracker has pretty much been spot on in relation to my time of the month and has played an important role in relation to assisting me with taking better care of myself.
Living with ITP is tough because it is not as if you have access to pathology results all the time therefore you can never 100% know where your levels are. Which means you have to be more accountable and more aware of your body.
My period tracker of choice is called clue. It was super easy to set up on my phone and even easier to follow. Highly recommended for those female ITP suffers out there.
However, one thing you have to keep in mind is that you must keep reporting your findings within this tracker in order for it to work to your advantage. The more you track the better the app can work and keep you well informed with what is happening inside your body. Please note this is not an ITP tracker it is purely a period/ovulation tracker that comes in handy when you need a little help monitoring that time of the month.
